Cheap Non Surgical Facelift

I'm surprised you don't seem to sufficiently cover nonsurgical, electro-stimulation based facelifts on your site. I have been having it monthly for 10 years and my skin is in excellent condition with very few wrinkles for a 58 year old. I have it done in the beauty salon of our local college where the (supervised) students get a chance to perfect their technique. I have never had problems with this and it reduces the cost by at least 50%.

It involves using electrical impulses, along with a collagen based conductive gel, to tone the muscles of the face, to increase blood flow and to encourage the collagen moisturizer to be absorbed.

I find that if for any reason I stop having it for a couple of months, (e.g when the college closes for summer), my skin gets dry and rough, (despite moisturizing) and soon improves dramatically after a couple of treatments.

It's difficult to say if it has kept the facial muscles toned all these years as there is no way of knowing what I'd have looked like without it, but I am often told how youthful I look and my face is not very 'saggy', my jaw line still pretty firm for my age. My skin DEFINITELY benefits hugely.

So contact your local college where they run a beauty course and see if they offer this. Sometimes you can even be a case study for a student for their assessments and it's even cheaper then.

Humidify Your Skin

Right before I go to bed I cleanse and tone my face and neck. I then use a spritz bottle to spray a fine mist of water on my face and neck. I immediately apply any night treatments and moisturizer over the water before it evaporates or dries. I do basically the same thing in the morning before I apply makeup. I spray my face and then apply day treatments and day moisturizer while my face is still damp. I also invested in a humidifier for my house as I live in a dry climate. If you cannot afford to add a humidifier to your heating/cooling system I recommend using smaller room humidifiers or placing containers of water around your residence. The evaporating water will add moisture to the air. People who live in damp climates may not need this extra moisture but I live in West Texas and have great skin for the dry climate. I am 55 going on 56 and always get compliments on the lack of wrinkles I have for my age.

Everyone tells me that I do not look my age and that I have great skin. The sales personnel at Lancome and Estee Lauder always tell me my skin has few wrinkles. My hairdresser tells me the same thing. I visited a dermatologist for skin care recommendations and she also told me my skin is in great shape for my age.

Wash Your Face With Spring Water

The most important thing I've learned with sensitive skin is what type of water you use on your face when cleansing. Tap water and well water cause me severe problems on my face - redness, dryness, breakouts, reactions, ruddiness, large pores, unhealthy skin.

If you buy Spring water, the inexpensive kind in the plastic gallon jugs at the supermarket, it's not only inexpensive but a WONDERFUL beauty secret!

Before I cleanse my face, I make sure my Spring water is the correct temperature because too cold is NOT good for my skin, tepid or lukewarm is best. If the water's too cold I simply place the closed jug of Spring water in a bowl filled with hot tap water for just a few minutes, that's all. Then just test it to be sure it's still not too cold or too warm before you put it on your face, of course.

I just pour some into a tall glass that I keep by the bathroom sink, splash my face with it, put on my cleanser, and then rinse with the Spring water - just pour some into your hand and rinse your face.

It's a little extra trouble, but really not that time consuming, and WELL worth it especially if you have sensitive skin and especially if your skin just doesn't feel right.

It's not the end to all problems, but in my opinion can be one of the best things you can do for your face.

Just remember the correct temperature is so important, extreme temperatures are so bad on your face.

Every time I try to use tap water I get the large pores again and the ruddiness and redness and dryness. I've tried water filters of different kinds, they do help, but for me bottled Spring water is best.

Keeping Vitamin C Serum Fresher

I think we all agree on the efficacy of Vitamin C serums. Although most of the producers of the serums say that deepening color doesn't mean the serum is no longer effective, I just prefer the serum to look as it did when I first purchased it. Most companies package their serums in amber colored bottles and a few have replaced the traditional eyedropper with a pump. Nevertheless, after a month, as oxidation set in, the color of my serum deepened. Based on a tip from my dermatologist, I now wrap my bottle of Vitamin C serum in plain old aluminum foil. It keeps the serum clear for months, so it must slow down the oxidation and I'm confident that now I'm receiving more benefits!

Steaming First

Before I go to bed I always steam my face over chamomile tea. Just steep three bags of tea for five minutes. Steam your face holding a bath towel over your head. Then exfoliate right away while the pores are open. This gets the dirt and bacteria out of the pores. Then use whatever product you have for your acne. The steaming turns my face into a sponge and the products I put on right after absorb faster so that makes them work better. My mom tried this before she put on her night cream and couldn't believe the difference. Hope this helps someone.

Ingredients:
Chamomile tea

How to prepare:
Steep five minutes

How to use:
Cover head over tea to catch the steam

Results (observed by submitter):
Love it!

Costs involved:
none!

Achieving Better Absorption Into Skin

When applying topical creams dampen skin with moist cloth apply cream and then cover with silicone plaster. This will guarantee that the cream penetrates the deep into your skin. One the most quoted reasons why a specific cream will not do what it says is insufficient penetration. The results will depend on what topical cream you apply (e.g. retinol, vitamin C, DMAE, etc.). Leave silicone plaster on for no more than 45 minutes -- more than that may slow down collagen production, that's why they are used to fade scar tissue.

Ingredients:
Silicone plasters / sheets; skin cream of choice

How to use:
Leave the silicone plasters on for about 45 minutes

Results (observed by submitter):
Smoother and tighter skin; wrinkles will diminish.

Costs involved:
silicone plasters for about $30

Anti Aging Skin Care

I am fifty years young and always get compliments on my skin. I don't use any one brand of product and to be honest - I'm not very consistent about washing my face twice daily. The one thing that I do attribute my good fortune to however is my diligent use of sunscreen. Everybody tells us about it but I cannot stress how important it is. Always wear something on your face that contains at least a 15 spf UVA/UVB sunscreen. It is so easy to do since there are so many products in everyone's budget. I still see women who are tanned and their skin looks like leather. DO yourself a favor - use sunscreen now - get your kids to use it. In 5-10 years from now you will be glad you did. I have no sun spots on my skin under Woods light examination!

Summer Make Up

Your summer make-up should be different to what you slap on your face during the rest of the year.

Not only is your wardrobe different in the summer but so too is the natural light.

So to help you look great in the warmer whether, here is our guide to wearing make-up in the summer sun...

- Subtle, natural looking make-up is the key to looking good in summer so avoid harsh colours.

- Keep your foundation thin in warmer weather to allow the changing colour of your skin to shine through.

- Neutral colours should be used on your lips rather than bold, dark shades.

- Make use of bronzing powder to give your face and body an extra special glow. Remember to apply your bronzer only where the sun would naturally tan you (i.e. your nose, forehead, cheekbones and a little on the chin).

- Use light coloured make-up to accentuate your tan.

- Waterproof mascara can help keep your lashes looking lush, irrespective of how much you perspire in the summer heat.

- Avoid lip liner as it's too harsh for the soft summer look.

- Use a softer brown eye liner rather than the traditional black.
