Skin care for soft feet

Hey, feet have skin, too! Feet can get very badly neglected so that they crack and scale. This is true especially in the summer time. Luckily, there is an easy, do it yourself technique to get them back in shape. The first step is to slather (preferably clean) feet with Vaseline. Any type of lotion can be used instead or in combination, but Vaseline works just fine. Second, wrap your feet with plastic. Plastic wrap or old grocery bags work well. The point is to keep the moisture in. After wrapping your feet, secure the wrap by putting socks over top. Then, just go to bed and let the healing begin. In the morning, improvement is obvious. A few weeks of repeated treatments can heal even deep cracks. With such low overhead it is worth a try!

Gentle Exfoliation

Keep a stack of clean wash cloths (100% cotton) by the sink. Use one every evening to wash face with lukewarm water and mild cleanser, such as Cetaphyl. This will gently slough off dead skin cells that lead to breakouts, and will also thoroughly wash off makeup. Be sure to use a clean wash cloth for each use. A warm wash cloth is the perfect place for bacteria growth. Throw used wash cloths in the dirty laundry. Twice per week, mix baking soda with cleanser until it forms a paste. Gently apply to skin with circular motion. Rinse off. The baking soda will polish your skin, giving it a healthy glow without irritating it. If more exfoliation is needed, this final step can be taken by those who are less sensitive. Use an AHA toner, such as Proactiv's Revitalizing Toner, containing Glycolic Acid. This toner also contains calming ingredients, such as aloe and witch hazel. This helps remove excess dirt, as well as refreshes and balances the skin. Apply the moisturizer of your choice. Be sure to apply sun screen, especially when using products with glycolic acid.

Results (observed by submitter):
Clean, refreshed, balanced, glowing skin.

Toning

For those with oily / tougher skins, one of the best ways to tone and invigorate your skin is simple and cheap: submerge your entire face in a basin of really cold water. Don't use hot water to cleanse beforehand though - warm is sufficient - otherwise you will end up with broken capillaries (not a good look!).

Take a deep breath and hold you face in the water for as long as you can, but don't drown yourself! Do it 2/3 times and splash the cold on your neckline too. Your skin will be pink and glowing and it will return to normal in a few minutes time.

This is great for closing the pores, getting blood into the skin to nourish the dermis and it's much better than buying toners that contain alcohol and chemicals that dry your skin out. However, always moisturize when your skin returns to its normal state to avoid overdrying.

The skin feels invigorated, the pores look much smaller and you will feel invigorated.

Mama-mia Night Treatment

Before I go to bed each night, I cleanse my face, use a toner, then apply a few drops of olive oil into my palms and smooth it over my entire face, including lips. In the morning I cleanse again. I have been doing this now for about 6 months and have found more improvement in not only wrinkles, but in overall condition of my skin.

The great thing is, you can rub the remaining oil into your hands and cover your hands with white cotton gloves for extra soft hands in the morning!

For a once a week boost, I break open a vitamin E capsule and mix that into the olive oil before using it. Nice to use a simple and natural ingredient instead of all those creams with ingredients that you can't pronounce. Maybe this is why Italian cooks have such good skin (have you noticed?)

Body skin exfoliation

To exfoliate my body skin, I first dry brush my skin and then soak in a bathtub for about ten minutes. While I'm soaking I exfoliate my face (right now I am trying Dr. Denese's microdermabrasion cream). Then I use Neutrogena sugar scrub on my body also using those exfoliating gloves. Then I take a long loofah back scrubber and with a shoe shine motion I exfoliate my legs again. I do this with my whole body (arms are the hardest) but my body skin is baby soft. I am 58. This really does not take very long and the sugar scrub leaves my skin so soft, and feeling great. This is my once a week treat with candles, tea and Andrea Bocelli!

My children are always telling me what soft skin I have and they love to rub my arms.
